Stimson Green Mansion

For the Urban Sketchers February Sketchcrawl, approximately twenty artists descended on the historic Stimson Green Mansion in Seattle.  Cathy, from the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation, did a great job making sure that we had complete access to the mansion. The work from the other artists is posted at Seattle Urban Sketchers

The kitchen in the mansion was upgraded to cater large events (e.g., weddings).  However, the large, shiny stove vent was original and it is impressive!

The billiard room is downstairs in the basement next to the gentlemen’s smoking room.  There are two large statues at one end of the room.  Above the statues are two yellow stained glass windows.

Swine

I did the sketch sometime ago.  It was last August at the Annual Autism Day Picnic - Jubille Farm in Carnation, Washington.

Sunset and the Evergreen Trees

It was another overcast day with a bit of rain and mist until late in the afternoon.  The sun broke through the clouds and I could see a few patches of blue sky. Hurray!

Caution Construction Site

The green sand bags with the orange caution cone and traffic tubes provided a bit of color against the gray, overcast sky of the Pacific Northwest.   Yes, it is raining again!

A Special Note for Ashley

This morning, Ashley made three wonderful beignets for me.  Each was dusted with powered sugar. While Ashley watched from behind the counter, I did a little watercolor sketch of the beignets.  I shared a fun moment with her and I left New Orleans with a great memory.

It was a very long travel day and one of the most unpleasant things that can happen to an artist happened to me.  I lost my sketchbook.  Many frantic phone calls later and I still have not found my sketchbook.  I fear the little painting of the beignets is lost.  On my next trip to New Orleans, I will stop by and visit Ashley and do another watercolor. Promise!

Dry-dock at Port Fourchon

This is a quick sketch of a large offshore vessel in front of the dry-dock.  Jack-up rigs (mobile oil platforms) are on the horizon.

White Ibis

Today was overcast, windy and chilly.  The day's highlight was spotting a flock of White Ibis feeding near the mangroves.

Black Mangrove

The black mangrove is found in the saltwater marshes of Louisiana.  Here are several watercolor sketches of the mangroves including germinating seeds.

Bayou Dularge Floodgate

Early in the morning, I had a few minutes to spare for this quick sketch of the floodgate at Bayou Dularge.  After passing through the gate, I saw several boats moored at the dock.  Late in the afternoon, we passed the same boats but they were loaded with burlap bags filled with fresh oysters.

Grand Isle State Park Fishing Pier

It was a great day to be out on the water.  The view is looking from Fort Livingston on Grand Terre Island.

Myrtle Grove Marina

We had a good day in the marsh and arrived back at the marina late in the afternoon.  While sitting in the back of the van, I had a few minutes for a quick sketch.
