I had a few minutes to sketch as the ATV was loaded on the trailer. The camp is behind the Fourchon Marina store.

Jupiter and Tim's Telescope

Below are a series of sketches of the four Galilean moons and Jupiter.

I am just starting to learn astronomical sketching. Before going into the field, I painted 98lb paper with ultramarine blue and burnt umber watercolor. A white gel ink pen was used to sketch Jupiter and the four moons. Looking through the eye piece of the telescope and sketching objects was a challenge. I was so clumsy that the actual features of Jupiter and the location of the moons are hastily done! Hopefully with more practice, the sketches will improve.

Thank you Tim for sharing your insight and the telescope!

Predator in the Tree

I have been working on this huge drawing for sometime. It is on brown wrapping paper and is approximately 2 feet x 3 feet. I used an assortment of drawing tools (e.g., ink, pencil, charcoal and pastel).

Menacing Storm in Drum Bay

A very hot day in the marsh that included a 'pop up' thunderstorm. The Captain made a run for the dock avoiding the lightning and a waterspout. At the dock, we scrambled into the van before the heavy rain. All people off the vessel and safe!

Broken Boat

The engine died and we had to wait for someone to bring the "part"...

Then, a bolt on the crankshaft got stuck...

This expression on the fellow says it all. The boat was eventually towed back to the marina.

Thunderstorms at Dallas Fort Worth Int'l Airport

Thunderstorms and cancelled flights meant many people were sleeping overnight in the airport terminal. Thirty hours later, I arrived at my destination!

Sea Birds (work in progress)

Last summer, I lived at a fish camp on Grand Isle. My fantastic roommate, Emily, patiently tolerated my many pencil sketches of birds taped to the walls of the camp. Using those preliminary sketches, I am now working on a pastel painting.

A Day on Barataria Bay

The day consisted of a long van ride, airboats, shrimpers and, of course, pelicans!

Someone Got A Ticket

....and it wasn't me! He wrote out the ticket faster than I could finish the sketch.
